OddsFile

OddsFile Pro · for accountants

Your clients traded prediction markets. Here’s the trade-level evidence.

Kalshi’s annual statement reports one net figure. Polymarket and Hyperliquid send nothing. Pro rebuilds every fill, fee, settlement and funding payment into lots and shows the result under each treatment, ready for your review.

One client workspace, demo data. Every number links back to the lot and the closing event.

Built for review, not for guessing.

01

One workspace per client

Ten client workspaces on Pro, each with its own accounts, tax year, lot method and exports.

02

Client portal for keys

Clients add read-only Kalshi keys and wallet addresses themselves. You never handle credentials over email.

03

Audit trail behind every row

Every disposal traces to a lot id and the closing event, at full precision. Deterministic: the same input always gives the same output.

04

You make the call

We show the numbers under each treatment with assumptions written out. The position is yours and your client’s.

What you get per client

The four treatments, on real numbers

Each treatment is computed from the same lots, with the loss limits and assumptions written out.

01

Capital asset

Form 8949 + Schedule D

Gains
Short-term at ordinary rates if held one year or less; long-term rates if held longer.
Losses
Offset capital gains, then up to $3,000 a year of ordinary income; the rest carries forward.
When it comes up
The common default for crypto-settled positions, including Polymarket outcome tokens held in your own wallet.

02

Section 1256 (60/40)

Form 6781

Gains
60% long-term and 40% short-term, whatever the holding period. Open positions are marked to market on Dec 31.
Losses
Capped like capital losses, with an optional 3-year carryback against prior Section 1256 gains.
When it comes up
Only for contracts that qualify as regulated futures on a qualified exchange. Whether event contracts qualify is unsettled.

03

Other income

Schedule 1, line 8z

Gains
Net profit is ordinary income at your marginal rate.
Losses
A net loss generally cannot offset other income.
When it comes up
A conservative reading some preparers use for exchange-traded event contracts while guidance is missing.

04

Gambling

Schedule 1 + Schedule A

Gains
Every winning session is income, even if you lost overall.
Losses
Deductible only if you itemize, and from 2026 only 90% of losses, never more than winnings.
When it comes up
The least favorable outcome for most active traders, and the one to understand before you file.

Questions from practitioners

Does this prepare or file returns?

No. OddsFile organizes trading data and estimates outcomes. You review, decide the treatment and prepare the return in your own software.

Which lot methods are supported?

FIFO and HIFO today, with specific identification supported by the engine. The method is applied consistently across every export.

How do you handle Polymarket losing positions that were never redeemed?

They are settled at zero on the market end date (or right after the last activity) so the loss is recognized in the right year, and flagged in the audit trail.

Can clients see the report?

Yes. The client portal shows the same report read-only, so questions are about the same numbers you see.
