Disclaimer: software, not tax advice

Software, not tax advice

OddsFile is software. It imports your trading activity, applies the calculation rules you choose (for example FIFO or HIFO lot matching and a tax year), and shows estimates. Nothing on this site or in the app is tax, legal, accounting or investment advice, and using OddsFile does not create an advisor, preparer or fiduciary relationship.

No ruling on prediction-market contracts

The IRS has not issued guidance on how prediction-market event contracts are taxed. OddsFile shows several possible treatments (capital asset, Section 1256, other income and gambling) side by side. Showing a treatment is not a statement that it applies to you, and we never recommend one. The choice depends on facts we do not know and on law that may change.

Estimates only

Treatment figures are estimates of federal income tax on the imported activity alone, at the rates you enter. They ignore the rest of your return, state and local taxes, the net investment income tax, alternative minimum tax, phase-outs and carryovers from other years.

We do not prepare or file returns

OddsFile does not prepare, sign or file tax returns or any other filing with any tax authority. Exports such as the Form 8949 CSV are data files for you or your tax professional to review and use.

Data accuracy

Imports depend on data from third-party venues and blockchains, which can be incomplete, delayed or wrong. Warnings in the app flag cases we detect (for example settlements without matching trades). You are responsible for reviewing the data and keeping your own records.

Talk to a professional

Before you file, confirm your position with a qualified tax professional (a CPA, enrolled agent or tax attorney) who knows your full situation.
